Why is the folding knife in wood a must-have? Because it helps with all tasks, all day long and whatever the circumstances. The real question should be: why not have it?
A hunting knife, kitchen knife, chef’s knife, it does everything. And while we don’t sell diving or combat knives, our Morta Knives tackle all meats. They also handle the vegetation blocking the hiker’s path or stubborn DIY tasks.
The pocket knife can be carried in complete safety. Folded on the belt of your jeans or loose at the bottom of an adventurer’s backpack, there’s no risk of having an unfortunate encounter with its blade. The very comfortable wooden handle adapts to your hand and acquires a patina from your palm.
The nail nick opening system lets you release it with one hand. The frame lock system respects the uncluttered design of a beautiful pocket knife.
Wood is a natural organic material that offers variety, durability and resilience. Indeed, a well-maintained wooden handle can last a lifetime. Timeless and resistant, a folding knife is useful in the kitchen, on a hunting trip, in the garden, when fishing. Shall we continue ? Its undisputed asset : its adaptability. Which one tempts you ?
As simply as possible. A soft, dry cloth will correctly clean the blade. The wooden handle has been treated with vegetable oil in the workshop. So it is protected.
For sharpening, choose a whetstone or sharpening steel.
Mini knife, large knife or XL model, each of our collections offers you the three dimensions. Which ones ?
The mini Morta blade has a total length of 9 cm and a useful cutting edge of 6.8 cm.
The large model has an 11 cm blade and a useful cutting edge of 8.5 cm.
Lastly, the XL Morta has a large blade of 13.5 cm and a cutting edge of 10.5 cm.
What do you prefer ? Think about what you’re planning to do. What are you going to cut ? Long fish fillets or simple steaks ? A mini or medium blade is suitable for everyday use, like cutting string, collecting mushrooms or tackling hard tasks like dry sausage and delicatessen meats. But if you want to be up to the job or save time, then don’t hesitate to choose the XL model.
Perhaps you’ll be won over by the design of a Solid Morta, an As-Forged or a Damascus. You are allowed to fall in love with a knife. Follow your instincts.
And have you thought about the steel of the blade? At Morta Knives, there’s a choice of three steels but only one quality: the highest, perfect and faultless. Test it on butter and you’ll see! All joking aside, don’t worry about the strength of your blade.
Our Solid Morta product line has a stainless steel blade: Sandvik steel (14c28n) to be precise. Its 59 HRC Rockwell hardness proves its strength and solidity. The stainless steel blade: the answer to corrosion.
The Solid As-Forged collection with its carbon steel (90MCV8) stands out for its sturdy character. The blade is not stainless and acquires a pretty patina on contact with your skin. High in carbon, it only retains the marks from your personal use, making it your own unique knife.
Damascus steel exudes the charm of its history and development. The result of powder metallurgy, it is characterized by its marbled effects and arabesques. Rich in carbon, it achieves the same hardness as the other two steels.
The Atelier JHP stamp can be seen on each blade leaving production, bearing witness to its quality and our commitment.
Craftsmanship, know-how, ancestral traditions, woodwork and cutlery in particular are imbued with distinguished brands and quality references. Producing a regional knife echoes a cultural legacy. It is all this DNA that we pass on when we offer a pocket knife.
There’s ‘wooden knife’ and ‘wooden knife’. Beech, rosewood, walnut, birch, ebony; wood offers a varied range of different species. They all have their own characteristics, some being stronger or more original than others. At Morta Knives there is only one wood! Which one? The answer is in our name. And with good reason, as it is regional, unique, of high quality and matchless nobility, it’s our heart and our reason for being, it’s Morta.
5,000 year-old oak extracted from the Brière marshes, which is in the process of fossilizing. Coming from oak trees buried under Brière peat, it is high in silica, producing an ebony black wood with natural copper hues. Also known as the black gold from Brière, the name Morta comes from the local dialect. Morta is a Brière term dear to great authors like Alphonse de Châteaubriant or Lionel Visset. If you were looking for regional knives, you have just found the quintessential local artisanal knife: made in France with French materials. So ?
At Atelier JHP, woodworking presupposes respect for traditional know-how and craftsmanship. The production of our knives meets all these requirements.
For any good cutlery, the wood only goes with organic materials of the same grade.
So Atelier JHP suggests you add three small, discreet inlays in mammoth ivory for a slightly more ancestral touch. This is known as marrying white gold and black gold.
Want another original touch ? The Damascus and As-Forged collections are enhanced with a blue border in vulcanized fibre.
Do you want to give a customized gift ? Offer engraving from a choice of three typefaces and make the knife unique to its owner.
